China, president and Hu Jintao announced the opening of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games at the opening ceremony in Shanghai on Tuesday.

A record 729 1 athletes from 164 countries and regions will take part in the 2 10/sports meeting to be held in Shanghai on10/,ranging in age from 69 to 8.

This is the first time that the Asian Games has been held in Asia, and it has also welcomed 2,302 coaches, more than 20,000 families of mentally retarded athletes, celebrities, VIPs and about 40,000 volunteers from all over the world.

The three-hour opening ceremony was visually eye-catching with dazzling lights, fireworks, costumes and overwhelming music.

This grand ceremony was attended by 5,800 actors, and started with a drum performance called "Harmony: Heart to Heart", which was performed by mentally retarded actors.

Liu Tong, music director, revealed before the opening ceremony: "Each drum makes a unique sound independently, but each individual sound is combined to form a unified single chord, which expresses the harmonious spirit and national spirit of the Special Olympics." .
