The first comprehensive bookstore in Shanghai is located at No.465 Fuzhou Road, which is similar to the state-owned bookstores in many other cities. This library has seven floors, which can basically meet the vast majority of book purchasing needs. It not only occupies a large area, but also is the bookstore with the largest flow of people in Shanghai.

Book City operates all kinds of books, audio-visual products and electronic publications of more than 800 publishing houses nationwide, with 6,543,800 varieties. Among them, the first floor deals with life and leisure books and special books, the second floor deals with Chinese and foreign literature books and audio-visual products, the third floor deals with cultural and educational books and children's world, the fourth floor deals with social science books, the fifth floor deals with science and technology books, and the sixth floor deals with art books, Hong Kong and Taiwan editions and original foreign languages.

The building is relatively old, the style is not particularly prominent, and the classification, placement and related facilities of books may be a little behind the pace of social development.
