Why is Mu Dan called the first person in modern poetry?
In addition to being a poet, there is another title given to Mu Dan, that is, a translator. After 1954, Mu Dan gradually stopped writing poems and began to turn his attention to translating foreign classics. Most of Pushkin's works were translated by Mu Dan. Professor Feng, the former director of Nankai University Library, told the reporter: "1962, I worked in the history department of Nankai University. At that time, the study of American history needed translation, so I invited Mu Dan from the library to the history department for help. In just two months, Mu Dan told us a lot of knowledge. Mu Dan is very kind to us young people. When we have questions, he always answers patiently and never puts on airs with his elders. Regrettably, due to the limitations of conditions, we failed to ask him to tell us more about poetry creation. " 1947 to 1953, Mu Dan studied in the United States. As if he had a hunch, and as if God was providing some comfort for his bumpy fate in the future, Mu Dan did not spend too much time on his major when he was studying in Chicago, but studied Russian tirelessly. When he returned to China and suffered a blow, Russian and English, which he was already familiar with, became his only sustenance. He translated hundreds of Pushkin's lyric poems and Chotchev's Selected Poems, Byron's Selected Poems, Shelley's Selected Poems, Keats' Selected Poems and Modern English's Selected Poems. In his later years, he also completed Byron's masterpiece Don Juan, which is a perfect long poem, and was praised as no less than the original by Wang Zuoliang. The Legend of Robin Hood, a children's literature translated by Mu Dan in his later years, was somewhat accidental and bitter. There are two points in the legend of Robin Hood. First of all, the old story of Robin Hood, a outlaw well-known to British women and children, is told in a way that children like to hear. Secondly, this translation is the 25th and last translation of Mu Dan, a famous poet and translator. Mu Dan specially translated this book to help his eldest daughter (who had just graduated from junior high school) learn English. 1974 is still accepting "controlled labor". His beloved daughter Xiao Yuan (Cha Yuan) was assigned to Tianjin 13 Plastic Factory as a worker. He helps her learn English in her spare time, hoping that her daughter may "become a translator" in the future. At first, Lincoln's biography was used as a teaching material, and later, Robin Hood's story was translated into a tutorial material. He only translated 15 in chapter 26 of the book, but he was busy with other things and couldn't finish it. 1February, 977, Mudan suffered a sudden myocardial infarction and died after being rescued.
