Established in 1988, it is a national key laboratory jointly established by China Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Science and Technology, and the only laboratory established by China Academy of Sciences in Beijing.

Zhongguancun Laboratory has research institutions, graduate schools, international cooperation departments, computer centers, libraries, laboratory management departments and scientific and technological achievements transformation departments.
