Glasgow College of Art, founded in 1845, is one of the oldest and few independent art colleges in Britain. The college has three colleges, namely, the School of Design, the Academy of Fine Arts and the McIntosh School of Architecture. The college has signed student exchange agreements with more than 80 partner universities around the world. It is one of the colleges with the lowest dropout rate in the UK and is located in the center of Glasgow.

The college has more than 1600 students. Here, students can study various courses of art, design, architecture and related majors from undergraduate to graduate. About 15% of the college students are international students, who come from Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Japan, South Korea, Norway, Russia, Singapore and the United States. Generally speaking, students in Glasgow come from more than 60 countries.
Glasgow Art College graduates are active in many world-renowned companies, such as Foster Architects, Richard Rogers Architecture, IBM, Jaguar, Ford Motor Company, Nokia and Ericsson. Some graduates have joined international design institutions such as Armani, Versace and Donna Cullen. Many art graduates continue to engage in artistic creation. Allison Watt, jenny saville, Christine Boland, Adrian Wisniuski, Turner Prize winner douglas gordon and Baker Prize winners Roderick Buchanan, Toby Patterson and rosalind Nashashibi are all graduates in recent years. Like other art schools, the school has also trained its own rock band and actor Robbie Coltrin, such as Travis, Life without Architecture, Tang Long and Franz Ferdinand.
The vast majority of faculty members are not only teachers, but also artists who enjoy international reputation in their respective fields. For example, Professor Thomas Joshua Cooper, an art photographer, held a grand retrospective exhibition of photographic works in Los Angeles in 2003. In March, 2005, Jack Cunningham, a master jeweler, planned an exhibition of the works of important jewelers in contemporary Europe. Jacqui Parry is a leading printing and papermaking expert in Europe.
In order to meet the special needs of international students during their study abroad, especially at the initial stage of enrollment, the college has established a faculty network to help solve some special problems of international students. The college accepts students' suggestions and provides professional advice on welfare, accommodation, finance and other issues.
