Do you still need a library in the information age?
In the eyes of rigorous Germans, libraries have always been the gateway to history and the future. Concerned about the future of libraries in the digital age, Dr. Rudeger Suller, a member of the Federal Board of Directors of the German Library Association, made a small-scale questionnaire survey to libraries and cultural circles, asking people's views on future libraries.

Dr. Peter Wardzek from the Communication University of Stuttgart added: "The library of 20 15 will be and must be a building in a famous central position, because it must be not only a place for people to search for information, but also a public cultural center, not only a (material) gate to the (virtual) world, but also a place for gathering and cultural activities.

Herman Les Jin Guanchang of the National Library of Munich, Bavaria, believes that "only based on the fact that knowledge can be better disseminated through the relationship between people than through the combination of machines and people, there will probably be no libraries without architectural entities in the future. But this possibility must not be ruled out. Just like there are unknown professional institutions and banks without offices, readers of libraries will not have the desire to read or borrow a book. They are looking for advice and skills. "

Elizabeth Niegemann, director of the Frankfurt German Library, went further: "For the German library as a national memory, all traditional and digital media will still play a role in 20 15 years. Traditional media may make a breakthrough, such as a' comfort book' that makes people fall asleep completely, or a book that allows people to automatically turn pages and read aloud, or a travel book that emits the smell and sound of the described area ... "

What are the key words, functions and tasks of the 20 15 library? The opinions of the interviewed experts are quite profound. More than 75% experts believe that the future library will be a collection of media library and information library, computer-aided learning center and civil affairs bureau, and will also have the auxiliary functions of learning place and book museum. More than half of the respondents said that the functions of museums, books, history and archives belong to the more important work areas of libraries in the future, and libraries also have the functions of cultural centers such as Internet cafes.
