The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is an international public research university located in Hong Kong, China. It is generally regarded as one of the most prestigious universities in Asia, and is known as the "Ivy League" in Asia. Its predecessor is Hong Kong College of Western Medicine.
The University of Hong Kong is a member of Pacific Rim University Alliance, Pine Alliance, Universitas 2 1, China University Presidents Association, Guangdong-Hong Kong University Alliance, Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance and Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance, and a member of AACSB and EQUIS. It is the first scientific research unit in the world to identify the pathogen of SARS.
By the end of 20 18, 1 1, HKU had ten colleges and research institutes, with 7,795 faculty members and 29,099 students, showing strong scientific research in the fields of economy, finance, accounting, biomedicine, dentistry, education, humanities, law, linguistics, political science and social sciences.

The School of Social Sciences of the University of Hong Kong was established in May 1967. It consists of five departments and nine research centers. It offers five full-time and three part-time bachelor's degree courses to thousands of students.
The University of Hong Kong is the first university in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong College of Western Medicine, founded by 1887, was merged with the Hong Kong Government Institute of Science and Technology, and191was formally established on Hong Kong Island. Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of the Republic of China, is the first graduate of Hong Kong College of Western Medicine.
