On June 9, 2020, Guangzhou Education Bureau and Tsinghua High School signed a preparatory agreement for running a cooperative school. Zhongwan School, affiliated to Tsinghua University, is a two-year public school in Guangzhou, and began to recruit the first batch of students in September 2002.
The school was built in two phases. The first phase is adjacent to Guangdong Olympic Sports Center. The total size of the school is 72 classes, including 30 classes in senior high school, 0/8 classes in junior high school and 24 classes in primary school (50 students in junior high school and 45 students in primary school). After enrollment, the school can provide up to 3,480 high-quality degrees.
The second phase of the school is located in the software park of Tianhe Smart City National High-tech Zone in the northeast of Tianhe District, covering an area of about 245 mu.

The school has a library, a science museum, an art center, a studio of the Academy of Fine Arts, an art center, a theater, indoor and outdoor stadiums and other facilities. There are gymnasium, fencing hall, martial arts room, swimming pool, indoor badminton court, indoor and outdoor basketball court, 400-meter standard circular runway, football field and tennis court paved with real grass.
