Therefore, the significance of the research and development of digital library is highlighted, which has become a major topic at present and attracted the attention of the whole world. Many countries and regions in the world actively use the latest information technology to create digital library systems and digital library resources, and a number of prototype achievements have appeared on the Internet.
Three mainstream modes of digital library in the future
After more than ten years of research on the main technologies of digital libraries and the development of related technologies, a number of digital libraries have been born or are under construction, and there are three main types:
● Special collection mode: Digitize the materials in your own library (including rare books, ancient books and collections) or special collection (including pictures, sounds, music, movies and other carriers) and provide them for online appreciation. For example, some national and local libraries represented by "American Memory" in the Library of Congress.
● Service-oriented model: The resources of this service model generally consist of three parts: a. Digital collection of the library itself; B. Commercial online electronic publications or databases (including the resource mirror database of our library); Useful literature information resources on the internet. They provide services for readers with a unified interface. For example, the digital library model of some foreign universities, such as the Digital Library (CDL) in California and the Digital Academic Library in IDAL, Illinois.
● Model based on business literature: Some literature service companies, publishing houses and agents have established digital libraries of business literature, providing full-text periodicals, magazines and e-books (including music and video materials). , usually used with index databases and full-text object databases. For example, the digital library of scholars and superstars in China provides e-books, the Dutch company E 1sevier provides 1500 full-text magazines, and the NetLibrary of OCLC in the United States also provides tens of thousands of e-books for readers to use.
