Caesar burned down the Egyptian library.

1 In 47 BC, Julius Caesar did an unforgivable thing when he captured Alexandria: he ordered the Ptolemy fleet moored in the port to be set on fire, and the fire spread to the city, burning 700,000 books in the library.

More than 2.400 years later, the Roman emperor Theodosius II ordered the closure of all pagan churches and temples, the library was burned down again, and the only Egyptian priest class who could read ancient Chinese characters was dispersed.

3. Later, Alexandria was burnt down by two fires in the 6th and 7th centuries, and the library disappeared without a trace in this worst disaster.

4. The Alexandria Library was built in Ptolemy I Soter (about 1364-283 BC) and flourished in the second and third generations. It is one of the oldest libraries in the world.

5. The present Alexandria Library was rebuilt after 1995, covering an area of 40,000 square meters. It is not only a key construction project in Egypt, but also a major scientific research and construction project of UNESCO in the world. Its shape is selected from the designs of 77 countries.
