Legend of Narnia kingdom
Lewis (UK)
The Legend of the Kingdom of Narnia is a series of seven magical stories written by Lewis from 195 1 956, which are the magician's nephew, the lion king, the witch and the wardrobe, the talking horse and prince, Prince Caspian, and treading the waves at dawn. The "Kingdom of Narnia" in the story is a mysterious and fantastic world. In these stories, the protagonists enter the magical world of Narnia through various wonderful methods, such as magic rings or wardrobe doors. They took great risks, fought demons and witches and saved the people of Narnia. There are talking animals in the book: giants, centaurs, dragons, tree spirits, fairies and mermaids. There are kind sheep monsters and dwarfs, and the great lion king Aslan. With their help, the little heroes defeated evil again and again and defended this magical and happy country through heroic adventures and battles.
The legend of Narnia is a combination of myth, fairy tale and legend. Its story is based on the struggle between justice and evil, with profound meaning, strong drama, tense plot, twists and turns, strange imagination and fascinating. The characters in the author's works are distinctive and lovable. The work also clearly outlines the fairytale environment. This work is almost a well-known children's book in Britain and America, and it is also recognized by some critics, publishers and educators as one of the best children's books in the 20th century. Over the past half century, this book has sold 65,005 copies and been translated into more than 30 foreign languages. These stories have not only been put on movies and TV screens, but also adapted into children's plays and children's ballets, which have been staged in Britain and the United States for a long time. One episode of The Last Battle won the Carnegie Prize.
Influenced by MacDonald and naisbitt, Lewis's works inherited the tradition of fantasy and adventure stories. Some of his imagination comes from some books he loved when he was a child: Talking Animals written by Beatrix Potter; E. Nisbert; The evil queen in Hans christian anderson's fairy tales: the dwarf in ancient German mythology; Animals in Irish fairy tales, myths and legends and ancient Greek myths and legends. Lewis combined them with his own Christian beliefs, thus turning them into a brand-new and creative story.
According to Lewis, the legend of Narnia is a series of pictures that began in his mind. "At first," he wrote, "there were no stories, just some pictures." "The Lion King, the Witch and the Wardrobe" comes from such a painting: in a snow-covered forest, a little sheep monster runs forward with an umbrella and a package on his back. Lewis later recalled: "This picture has been in my mind since I was sixteen. Then, one day, when I was forty years old, I said to myself,' Let me write a story about it ...' "
Lewis was a famous writer in the 1940s, who wrote many serious works about literature and religion. But as a bachelor, he didn't know many children and never thought about writing books for them. During World War II, many children were evacuated from London to the countryside, and four of them were placed in his home. To Lewis's surprise, the little guests didn't seem to have read any imaginative stories. So he decided to write a song for them himself. In this way, he wrote the first few words of a story. The story is about four children: Ann, Martin, Ross and Peter. In order to escape the air raid, they were sent out of London to live with an old professor who lived alone in the country.
He wrote so much at that time, but a few years later, he came back to write this story. The children (now called Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy) discovered another world-which he finally called the Kingdom of Narnia. As Lewis said, more pictures flooded into his mind: one was "the queen sitting on a sleigh"; The other is The Lion. For a time, he didn't know what the story was about. "But then," he said later, "Aslan suddenly came ... I don't know where the lion came from or why. But once it appeared, it led to the whole story. "
Everything was used to create the legend of Narnia. An evacuated child asked him an interesting question: Is there anything behind the old wardrobe at home? He has his own childhood memories: he and his brother always got into the closet made by grandpa and sat in the dark telling stories to each other.
"The Lion King, the Witch and the Wardrobe" was published in 1950, and was illustrated by a young artist Baines, who reproduced the picture in Lewis's mind well. At that time, Lewis had begun to write more Narnia stories, telling how children found their way back to Narnia again and again and experienced new adventures. In Prince Caspian (195 1) and Surfers at Dawn (1952), Lewis wrote about the time difference between Narnia and our world-this technique means that there are something unusual and unexpected in every new story.
"When I finished the voyage of Dawn Treadmill," Lewis later recalled, "I was quite sure it would be the last time. But I found that I was wrong. " 1953 Write a silver chair; 1954, he wrote the eloquent horse and prince, which happened at the same time as The Lion King, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
Every book will bring readers an unforgettable new character in Narnia, such as Mr Tumnus, reepicheep, General Mouse, King troup, Dwarf, etc. There are also people coming from our world, such as honest Douglas, chivalrous Shasta, bold Gilball, and eustace who has become a dragon.
This work also promotes many Christian ideas. Lewis created a lion symbolizing Christ in fairy tales, described the struggle between good and evil, and declared that as long as people are kind, obedient and kind, they can get eternal life. Aslan, the great lion king, plays an important role in every book: in the magician's nephew, it gave birth to the kingdom of Narnia; In The Lion King, the Witch and the Wardrobe, it defeated the evil white witch. In the final battle, Aslan ended the story of Narnia and led its loyal friends to a new world.
Lewis once said, "People don't write the books I want to read, so I have to write them myself." In this way, he wrote a book that thousands of people wanted to read. The legend of Narnia has attracted generations of readers, including children and adults. Today, it has not lost its magic power to firmly grasp our imagination.
From June 5438 to October 2000 10, at the 52nd Frankfurt Book Fair, the world's largest book fair, the legend of Narnia Kingdom spread throughout the exhibition hall, setting off waves of upsurge. Lewis's name spread like wildfire, and many publishers from various countries flocked to the booth where Narnia was placed. ...
