The National Library is the archive of Polish literary products, which collects immigrant literature and foreign language literature about Poland. The agency permanently preserves Polish past and present knowledge products, such as documents, charts and prints, drawings, music, audio-visual and electronic collections;

As a humanities research library, it is open to all individuals who want to use its collections for research, cultural activities, creative/professional work or self-improvement;

As a national bibliographic center, editing and publishing current and past national bibliographies, foreign Polish bibliographies, Polish bibliographies and scientific books;

As the standardization center of library science and bibliography, cooperate with Polish Standardization Committee;

As a document and information dissemination agency, timely inform Polish libraries, reference centers and publishers of domestic and foreign documents collected by Polish libraries;

After the war, the functions of the National Library have been expanded, especially in bibliography and academic research. The library collected information and began to edit 190 1- 1939 retrospective national bibliography. Actively carry out standardization activities and edit the joint catalogue of various documents. The library also microfilms its most valuable collections and materials selected from other Polish libraries. The research scope includes the development and reading activities of public libraries. The National Pavilion also participates in international cooperation on a larger scale.
