Classification basis of high-rise civil buildings

According to the Technical Specification for Steel Structures of High-rise Civil Buildings (with provisions attached), high-rise civil buildings refer to residential buildings with 10 floors or above or houses with a height of more than 28m and other high-rise civil buildings with a height of more than 24m. From the use function, some are ordinary office buildings, and some are national four-star and five-star hotels.

Because of the wide range and many functions of high-rise civil buildings, it is a complicated work to classify high-rise civil buildings. According to the current code for fire protection design, high-rise civil buildings in China are mainly divided from the aspects of use nature, fire risk, evacuation and fighting difficulty.

For example, in a class of buildings, some have the above factors at the same time, while others have one or two outstanding factors. For example, hospitals are classified into one category, which is determined by the characteristics of inconvenient movement and difficult evacuation of patients. Another example is the office building and the scientific research building, which belong to the same category. For ordinary people, it is divided into level 1 and level 2 according to different heights, mainly considering the evacuation and combat difficulty after the height increases.
