According to Article 6 of the Regulations of Shanghai Municipality on the Control of Smoking in Public Places, smoking is prohibited in the following public places:
(1) Indoor and outdoor areas of nurseries, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, children's palaces and youth activity centers;
(2) Indoor areas such as teaching places, student dormitories and restaurants. Schools of all levels and types other than those specified in the preceding paragraph;
(3) Indoor and outdoor areas of maternal and child health centers (institutes), children's hospitals and children's welfare homes;
(four) indoor areas of medical and health institutions at all levels except the preceding paragraph;
(5) Indoor areas of sports venues and outdoor seating areas of spectators and competition venues;
(6) Indoor areas of public cultural places such as libraries, theaters, concert halls, exhibition halls, museums, art galleries, memorial halls, science and technology museums and archives;
(seven) the office space where the state organs provide public services;
(8) Business premises of public utilities and financial institutions;
(nine) shopping malls, supermarkets and other commercial places;
(10) Elevator and its waiting area;
(eleven) buses and trams, taxis, rail vehicles, passenger ferries and other public transport, and their ticket offices, waiting rooms and indoor platforms;
(twelve) Internet cafes and other Internet service sites;
(thirteen) other places as prescribed by laws and regulations.

If a smoking area is designated or a smoking room is set up in a public place, it should have good ventilation conditions, and obvious tobacco control signs and publicity signs such as smoking is harmful to health should be set up.
Smoking is prohibited in indoor public places such as meeting rooms, restaurants and workplaces used by state organs.
Other public places and workplaces other than those stipulated in Articles 6 and 7 of this Ordinance may, according to the actual situation and referring to the provisions of this Ordinance, set up no-smoking areas and do a good job in related management.
The Municipal People's Government may, in accordance with the provisions of these Regulations and the needs of holding large-scale activities, temporarily set the scope of no-smoking places.
