Cut Tan is from The Book of Songs, National Style and Wei Ti, which is probably the most familiar poem from The Book of Songs in China. Everyone who finished high school in China can basically recite this song "Cut Tan". When I was in middle school, my teacher told me not to leave school until I had finished reciting this poem.

However, in those days, the teacher talked a lot about the practical and symbolic significance of "cutting tan", but now I can't even remember a word. Later, when I was free, I read this poem many times, but the more I read it, the easier it became. This poem is actually a song that people sing when logging. They sang about the labor when logging, with heroic songs and warm scenes. By the way, they also compared their poems with those gentlemen who are not vegetarians.

He Xiu of the Eastern Han Dynasty said, "Men and women complain and sing accordingly. Hungry people sing their food, and laborers do their things. " This poem is "singing it" by the woodcutter. The purpose of their singing is not simply to express their resentment and dissatisfaction, but to relieve fatigue and improve labor efficiency.

They sang while working, not only singing the joy of creating wealth through labor, but also singing their dissatisfaction with social injustice. The overall mood of this poem is optimistic and happy, but it also implies dissatisfaction and resentment against the ruler, but this mood is mild. The poet did not reprimand the injustice of the ruler in a fierce tone, nor did he clearly show the consciousness of fighting against this unfair system. Instead, he just laughed and scolded a few words, mocked a few times, balanced his mood, eased his tired bones and muscles, and then began to work again. This situation reflects that the opposition between loggers and rulers is not serious, and it also shows the optimism of workers.

Different times background, different status and even different psychological emotions will have a profound impact on a person's understanding of this poem. However, no matter from which angle we interpret it, we cannot deny that workers are happy. When we are among these workers, we will soon be infected by their optimism. Although they may struggle at the bottom of society every day, they all have to face heavy work, and even some people may have tragic circumstances behind them, as long as they appear at the labor site together, their faces are full of smiles.

No matter how simple-minded, people will know that personal suffering should be hidden in their hearts, and no one will cry all day because of their bad situation. These "sandalwood cutting" workers understand that even the most tragic experience should be faced with singing and smiling.
