Invent a character retrieval method

In the early 1920s after the May 4th Movement, foreign knowledge flooded in, and the situation was explosive, so the compilation of reference books became a top priority. However, from Shuowen Jiezi in the Eastern Han Dynasty to Kangxi Dictionary in the Qing Dynasty, all of them are based on six books, which are very cumbersome and unscientific. At that time, many people of insight tried to reform the Chinese character retrieval method. A researcher invented a text retrieval method based on point, line and surface, and submitted it to the Commercial Press. Wang got inspiration from it. Since then, he has seriously summarized the reform ideas of his predecessors and borrowed some ideas of telegraph cipher. After thinking hard for half a year, he decided to create a digital retrieval method based on the four corners of Chinese characters. The height of the Commercial Press has also contributed many years of research experience and materials to help Wang achieve this great cause. After several years of design, demonstration, experiment and modification, Wang classified Chinese strokes into five categories: horizontal pick, straight hook, skimming, clicking and bending, and coded them with numbers respectively, and invented a simple and practical "four-corner number method". Later, some improvements were made in the classification, and it was finally determined to be "one horizontal, two vertical and three points, the bottom band variable score, five squares and six crosses, and seven angles and eight points and nine points." According to this method, many reference books such as Wang Dictionary were compiled, which were not widely used until 1950s.
