From the functional point of view, Endnote and Mendeley have different degrees of problems in the accuracy of importing Chinese literature data, which can not well support the format of Chinese periodical references and correctly understand the national standard. These two programs are foreign software, mainly aimed at English authors, and can be understood without focusing on solving the problems of Chinese periodical authors. It is worth mentioning that Mendeley's built-in PDF browser can directly collect English PDF files, which is very powerful. Domestic software NE can support Chinese documents very well, but there are still some problems in the details of the national standard, such as the inability to automatically distinguish Chinese Pinyin from English documents and the inability to automatically form bilingual references in both Chinese and English. Relatively speaking, NoteFirst is more suitable for the authors of Chinese sci-tech journals, fully supports the national standard, and supports the automatic formation of bilingual references, which is very practical for me, an author who often needs to be included in EI journals.
B. Price: Endnote and Noteexpress are paid software. Endnote is also expensive, and only institutional users will use it. Both Mendeley and NoteFirst offer free versions. Functionally, it is enough for an author of scientific journals like me. Of course, doctoral students who want to write a big thesis have to pay some money to use the advanced functions of the software.
Based on the above reasons, I finally chose Notefirst and Mendeley*** to use together. NoteFirst is used for document management and paper writing, and Mendeley is used for PDF file management. This is my experience for your reference.
