The predecessor of Ningxia Medical University is Ningxia Medical College, which was founded in 1958. In August 2008, the school was renamed Ningxia Medical University. 20 14 Medical College of Ningxia Normal University merged into Ningxia Medical University. At this point, the school has become the only medical institution of higher learning in Ningxia.
The school is a full-time public medical university approved by the Ministry of Education, the Health and Wellness Committee and the People's Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
