Three things to pay attention to in reading

1) Don't look up every new word in the dictionary.

I once saw a classmate buy a bilingual magazine, and then when he was reading the English part, he crossed out the new words he didn't understand and wrote down its corresponding Chinese meaning. As a result, a magazine is full of his notes. In fact, this is a very bad way of learning.

New words should be looked up, but not everyone should. Take the current book size of 32 pages as an example, you can look up a new word every two pages. Because the main purpose of reading is not to recite words, if you just recite words, just open the European dictionary and import the words back. Why read an original book and pick out words you can't?

Some people say that you can only look up one word every two pages, but I can't understand many of them. Then I want to ask, is the difficulty of your book suitable for you?

Of course, you won't encounter only one new word in these two pages, but in many cases, some new words can be ignored, such as adverbs of deepening degree. We can guess the meaning of other new words according to the context, so when you meet the first new word, if you think it completely affects your reading, then you should look it up, or you should read it down until you come across a word you feel you have to look up.

2) Check the new words to be recorded.

When you look up a new word, you should carefully record it, including phonetic symbols, meanings and so on. Because you only look up a new word every two pages, the amount of new words accumulated at the end of the day is not much, so you can be a little more careful when taking notes.

3) Try to read more than 20 pages every day.

"Read it a hundred times and you will understand what you mean", and the same is true in English reading. When we keep good English reading habits, we will find it easier to read more. Although I feel a little painful in the early stage and need to finish it deliberately, as long as I get through the early stage of habit formation, it will be easy to do later.

4) Review the new words the next day

The recorded new words should be reviewed the next day, and the focus of review is to delete words. In other words, if you can remember the meaning of the new words recorded the day before the next day, delete them and don't read them any more. Finally, if the repetition is not deleted, it just can't be reacted immediately.

5) Keep in mind the principle of N+ 1

After reading for a while, if you can feel that you have made progress, you should take the initiative to increase the difficulty of the materials and change them into more difficult books. In short, you should always keep the learning state of N+ 1

Four English reading skills

1, read quickly, and get into the habit of reading quickly at ordinary times. Extensive reading here refers to extensive reading of a large number of books involving different fields, which requires fast reading, understanding and mastering the main contents of books. Determine a clear reading quota, which should be practical and more or less combined with your own reality. For example, if you read 20 pages a day and a semester is calculated as 18 weeks, you can read 2 1 book with medium thickness (each book has about 120 pages).

2. Time to read and develop the habit of reading after school. Regular reading can be done for 5 ~ 10 minutes at a time, not too long. Because reading fast at a fixed time, you are highly concentrated. After a long time, you are easy to get tired and distracted, but it is boring. When reading, write down "startingtime", after reading, write down "finishingtime" and calculate the reading speed. Write it down casually and stick to it for a long time, and it will certainly receive obvious results.

3. Skimming, also called skipping or browsing, is a special and very practical fast reading skill. Skimming refers to reading as quickly as possible, just like having a bird's eye view of the obvious signs on the ground from the plane, and getting the main idea or central idea of the article quickly. In other words, skimming requires readers to read selectively. In order to grasp the outline of the article, some details can be skipped, thus speeding up reading. According to statistics, a well-trained skimmer can read 3,000 to 4,000 words per minute. When reading, first skim the article to see if there are any materials and information that you need or are interested in, and then determine whether this article is worth reading carefully. When looking for information, if there is not enough time and you don't need a high degree of understanding, you can use skimming skills. "You don't need a high level of understanding" does not mean that the level of understanding can be very low when skimming, but that the level of understanding is allowed to be slightly lower than the general reading speed. The goal of general reading is to reach the highest possible level of understanding, usually 70% or 80%, while maintaining the general reading speed. When skimming, the expected understanding level is slightly lower, with an average understanding rate of 50% or 60%.

Develop good reading habits.

(1) reading interest: I am eager to read English books and newspapers. Get into the habit of reading English books and periodicals, including comics, humor and English-related publications.

(2) Reading method: concentrate when reading, and be able to think while watching; When you encounter words or questions you don't understand, you can consciously use reference books to find answers; Be good at collecting needed materials and sorting them out in different categories.

(3) Reading quality: take good care of books and periodicals, and don't scribble on books casually; Not superstitious about books, dare to question and ask difficult questions; Willing to do reading communication, can actively participate in discussions and debates, and listen carefully to other people's opinions. Be good at solving problems in reading through extensive reading.
