The Historical Evolution of Shanxi Library
Shanxi Library, formerly known as Shanxi Education Book Museum, was established on 10/919. Later, Shanxi Public Library (including museums), Shanxi People's Education Museum and Taiyuan Museum were used successively.

1950 changed its name to "Shanxi provincial library museum", and in August 1953 changed its name to "Shanxi provincial museum (with library department)".

1957 In March, the "Shanxi Provincial Library Preparatory Office" was established and separated from the museum.

On August 28th, 1960, the new library of Shanxi Province was completed and officially opened.

1984, and build another East Reading Building.

On July 2, 20 13, the new building of Changfeng Business District on the west bank of Fenhe River officially opened. The building area of the museum is 50,000 square meters, the collection of books has increased to 7 million volumes, there are 3,000 seats suitable for public reading, 27 reading rooms of various types, 6 multi-function halls, 3 leisure reading areas, and 37 special equipment suitable for reading by visually impaired people, including computers that automatically convert Braille, reading machines and slide projectors for the visually impaired. The digital resources available in the library mainly include: e-books 1 140000, about 20000 kinds of electronic periodicals, about 700 kinds of electronic newspapers, about 2.72 million dissertations, about 3.72 million conference papers and about 6565 hours of video materials.
