The Historical Evolution of China Museum of Buddhist Books and Cultural Relics
China Museum of Buddhist Books and Cultural Relics was established in May 1980 and registered in Beijing Cultural Relics Bureau in April 1986. It is a specialized museum under the Chinese Buddhist Association for collecting, displaying and studying Buddhist cultural relics and books. The museum is located in Fayuan Temple, the oldest existing temple in Beijing. Fayuan Temple was built in the early Tang Dynasty, formerly known as Banzheming Temple. During the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, it was given the name "Fayuan Temple" because it was taught here. 1965, China Buddhist College was established here to train Buddhist monks. At the beginning of ten years of turmoil, the whole temple was severely damaged, and many precious Buddhist cultural relics disappeared. From 65438 to 0979, under the auspices of the Chinese Buddhist Association, the whole temple was completely rectified and restored. 1980, on this basis, the China Museum of Buddhist Books and Cultural Relics was established, with the purpose of collecting, sorting out and collecting Buddhist classics and related books and materials, and carrying out Buddhist academic research and international cultural exchanges; At the same time, collect, restore and keep Buddhist cultural relics of past dynasties, and select some treasures for exhibition and opening to the outside world.
