Traditional library services generally include borrowing and returning books, photocopying, searching on behalf of others, publishing new books, lectures for readers, reading, topic selection services, sci-tech novelty retrieval, and inter-library exchanges. The characteristics of traditional services are mainly reflected in three aspects: first, on the service carrier, traditional services mainly provide readers with printed physical collections such as books, periodicals, newspapers and microfilms according to their needs, and the number is limited; Secondly, in terms of service methods and service time and space, traditional services generally only provide face-to-face services for readers in library buildings, and the opening and closing time of libraries is limited; Thirdly, in terms of service objects, although the service objects of traditional libraries are geared to the public in theory, the actual service objects are very limited due to the limitations of their service methods.
With the rapid development of information technology, people expect library services to break through the tradition and provide more abundant information services for more people beyond the limitations of time, space and quantity. Professional libraries should also combine the development goals of the country and the industry, deeply understand the needs of users, develop and innovate on the basis of traditional library services, and form their own characteristic services.
