The Historical Evolution of Wenhua Library College
During the period of 1903, Ms. Wei Dihua, an American Torch Society missionary and library science educator (praised by Li as the "Queen of Modern Library Movement in China") organized a reading room at Wenhua School in Tanhualin, Wuchang.

19 10 In the spring, Zurong Shen assisted Wei Dihua to expand the library and named it Wenhua Public Book Forest. On May 6th, 2006, Yu Wenhua University held a grand opening ceremony.

19 14, Wei Dihua sent Zurong Shen (the first person from China to study library science in the United States) to study in the New York State Library School, and returned to China in 19 17 after obtaining his bachelor's degree.

1920, Wei Dihua and Zurong Shen jointly founded the first library science education institution in China-Wenhua Library Department. Students who have left school for more than two years after graduating from college study library science for three years, which are divided into self-funded students and free students. Wenhua Public Library has become an internship library of this major, which is managed by students.

1924, Wenhua University merged with Wuchang Bowen College and Hankou Boxue College to form a private Huazhong University.

1927 in may, the private Huazhong university was closed due to the political situation, and Mr. Zurong Shen insisted on continuing to provide mandarin books. The Wuhan National Government allowed the case to be filed.

1In August, 929, the Ministry of Education of Nanjing National Government approved the filing of the case. Mr. Zurong Shen separated Mandarin Library Science from other library sciences and founded a private Wuchang Mandarin Library Science College. Funding comes from China-US Geng grants and public and private sponsorship, with a two-year academic system. The Practice Library has become the library of Wenhua Library.

1934 The school set up special chairs, and set up Chinese and English archives management courses in the School of Library Science and the book workshop. Each course was taught for two hours a week for one year, but at that time, the archives management course was only an auxiliary course for library management majors.

1938-1946 Due to the outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Wenhua School moved to Chongqing for further education. During this period, the school building was bombed twice by the Japanese army.

1940 formally opened a training course on file management in the spring, with a duration of one year.

1September, 940, the school applied to the Ministry of Education for the establishment of archives management major, with a two-year academic system. The enrollment target is high school graduates, and the students in the file management training class at that time were required to change to this subject. In the same year, 65438+10,65438+July was approved by the Ministry of Education, and the school immediately changed the first and second file training courses to the first and second file management colleges. The library department has also switched to recruiting high school graduates.

1946 In May, the school moved to No.2 Chongfushan Street, Wuchang.

From 1940-1947, the Archives Management College has enrolled 6 students successively. Later, due to the resignation of several teachers majoring in file management, there was a shortage of teachers. After enrolling six students, the Archives Management College did not continue to enroll students, while the Library Management College continued to enroll students.

1 September, 1949, the school set up three classes of archives management, and library science1class. There are 37 students, 7 professors (5 part-time) and 7 lecturers (2 part-time). Mr. Zurong Shen resolutely refused to attend any "emergency meeting" and go to Taiwan Province Province, so as to preserve the Chinese language library in Wuchang completely.

1951August, the Ministry of Education of the Central South Military and Political Commission took over Wenhua School and changed it into a public school.

1953, Wenhua Map College was merged into Wuhan University and changed into a library college. Zurong Shen is a professor, teaching cataloging and other courses.

Later, the Library Department of Wuhan University was established, and now it is a part of the School of Information Management.
