What's the difference between paperback books and hardcover books?
A form of paperback book binding, also known as "paperback", is a widely used binding form of movable type printing post-modern books. The inside pages of paperback books are printed on both sides. After folding the big paper, stamp each printed page on the spine. After riding a horse and locking the thread, you can finish the book by cutting all three sides except the book. This method is called "thread locking nail". Because sewing thread is bulky and expensive, but strong, it is suitable for thick or important books, such as dictionaries. At present, the methods of repairing the spine, gluing and not locking the thread are mostly adopted. This method is called "wireless glue nail". The economy is fast, but not very solid, suitable for thin or ordinary books. From the twenties and thirties to the fifties and sixties, many books were in the form of iron wire double nails. In addition, some thinner booklets, the inside pages and the cover are folded together, and the iron wire is directly pierced at the folded spine, which is called "saddle binding". However, iron wire is easy to rust and should not be stored for a long time.

Hardcover book is a book binding method with a protective hard bottom cover (generally cardboard, covered with leather such as fabric, thick paper or calf leather). Chinese mainland's books are usually paperbacks, but paperbacks are not suitable for preservation. Hardcover books are beautiful and easy to preserve, and have high collection value, so collectors and libraries like hardcover books.

Hardcover refers to an exquisite book making method. Hardcover books are mainly made on the cover, back and corners of the book block through various modeling techniques. There are many processing methods and forms, such as round back (with or without ridge), square back, square corner, rounded corner and other book blocks. Cover processing is divided into whole surface, bonding surface, Fiona Fang angle, foil pressing, hot stamping pattern, etc.

Several common forms of hardcover books:

First, according to the spine form, there are two kinds of spine: square spine and round spine.

1, the square spine is thicker than the block. Due to the folding of the book block and the stringing of books, the height of the spine is higher than that of the book block, and the more sheets are printed, the more obvious it is. Therefore, the hardcover book with square spine should not be too thick, and the spine is generally less than 20 mm

2. Circular spine. Because the positions of the front and back booklets are slightly different, the folded part of the booklets is slightly semicircular, distributed on an arc surface, and the thickness is balanced. The turnover of the book block is concave, which is suitable for the convex circle of the spine. Therefore, it is best to use a round spine for thicker books. A book with a round spine has a round back. Generally, the thickness of the book block is 130 between the chord and the arc. Round ridges can be divided into two types: round back without ridges (only round back without ridges) and round back with ridges (round back with ridges, the height of which is generally the same as the thickness of book cover paperboard).

Second, according to the material, it can be divided into two kinds: the same material on the ridge surface and the different material on the ridge surface.

1, spine material is the same, that is, spine and back cover material are the same. There are square ridges and round ridges. Hardcover fabrics are mostly paper, cloth, lacquered paper and lacquered cloth. , usually equipped with a protective seal. However, there is a kind of book title, pattern and so on. Printed on the whole paper and pasted on the cardboard. Most of these books have square ridges and no protective seals.

2. The spine is made of different materials, that is, the spine and the cover are made of different materials. Cloth is usually used as the spine of the book, and paper is pasted on the cardboard as the cover. This form is generally a round ridge unprotected seal.
