How many books are there in Peking University Library?
Peking University Library, formerly known as Shi Jing University Hall Library Building, was built in 1902 and is the oldest national university library in China. At present, the total collection of documents has reached more than 4.5 million volumes, and there are more than 7,000 Chinese and foreign newspapers and periodicals. There is a complete collection of literature on major disciplines at home and abroad, with diverse languages, as well as rare and special collections such as rare ancient books, old newspapers and periodicals, and epigraphy rubbings. The current building of the library was completed at 1975, with a total construction area of 25,500 square meters. In recent years, libraries have made rapid progress in modernization. At present, Internet international online retrieval and CD-ROM retrieval can be used to improve the efficiency of literature information service for readers. The library automation integrated system has been put into use in the whole library. The establishment of "Peking University Document Information Center of the State Education Commission" has provided high-level modern information services for the teachers and students of the whole school and the national university system. "2 1 1 project" higher education document guarantee system management center is under construction. 1998 after the completion of the new library, the area will reach 50,000 square meters, with more than 4,000 reading seats and a total collection of more than 6 million books, making it the largest library in Asian universities.
