1958 dalian polytechnic university was born to meet the needs of the national light industry layout. It is one of the earliest four light industry colleges established in China. Originally under the Ministry of Light Industry, 1998 was transformed into a system built by the central and local governments and managed by Liaoning Province. In March 2007, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Dalian Institute of Light Industry was renamed dalian polytechnic university.
