Suzhou Library was founded in 19 14. Its predecessor was Xuegu Hall of Justice Academy in the late Qing Dynasty. It was once the "Second Library of Jiangsu Province" and one of the earliest public libraries in China. With a history of 100 years, it is a national first-class library.
Suzhou Library is located at No.858 Renmin Road, covering an area of16,000 square meters and a building area of 25,000 square meters. This is a garden-like modern library. The layout is divided into three areas: north, middle and south. The main building in the north area is a literature borrowing area. The main building is equipped with books and periodicals borrowing, reading in various disciplines, computer information center, science and technology information center and editing center.
There are ancient books museum and modern garden building-Tianxiang Zhu Xiao in the central area, which mainly focuses on reading ancient documents, readers' leisure and VIP reception. There is a classical garden corridor along Zhangsiliang Lane in the east, which is engraved with famous paintings and calligraphy of Suzhou in the past dynasties, reflecting the general situation of Suzhou's rich humanities, talented people and cultural prosperity. Along the side of Renmin Road, there is an empty corridor and green belt about 60 meters long, which is isolated from the bustling street view. The gallery is a patriotic education base in Jiangsu Province, and it is carved with aphorisms of academicians of Suzhou Academy of Sciences.
