Ankang University is a provincial multi-disciplinary full-time undergraduate college. The college, formerly known as Ankang College, was founded in 1958 and closed on 1963 due to national economic difficulties. 1978 re-established "Ankang Professional Course of Shaanxi Normal University", 1984 was renamed "Ankang Normal University" with the approval of Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. In 2004, the former Ankang Education College and Shaanxi Ankang Agricultural School merged into Ankang Normal College, and was upgraded to an undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education in February 2006.

The college is located in Ankang City, Shaanxi Province, which is known as the "Xi 'an Back Garden" in the hinterland of Qinba and the bank of the Han River. Ankang enjoys convenient transportation, with Xiangyu, Xikang and Yang 'an railways intersecting, and 3 16, 2 10 national highways, Beijing-Kunming, Shi Tian and Baomao expressways passing through, making it the second largest transportation hub in Shaanxi Province. The college faces the Hanjiang River in the north and Xiangxi Cave Scenic Area in the south. The campus is lush with flowers and trees, lush green grass, beautiful scenery and elegant environment. It is an ideal garden for study and research.

The college now covers an area of 743.8 mu, the school building area is 24 1.847 square meters, and the assets of teaching and research instruments and equipment are 46,620,900 yuan. The school has complete teaching and experimental facilities and advanced equipment. At present, there are 908,300 books, 2008GB e-books and more than 500 kinds of periodicals/kloc-0. Tsinghua Tongfang Journals, Wanfang Database and Gigabit Campus Network connected to the Internet provide good advanced means and development platforms for teachers and students to study, research and obtain information.
