Experience of Visiting the Red Mansion in Peking University
From the outside, the Red Mansion, the former site of Peking University, doesn't look like other memorial halls. On the contrary, if we miss other signs by mistake and see his dormitory 50 years later, he will feel the same as us. In fact, when we went in through the main entrance, I was completely shocked by what I saw and felt, from head to toe, from inside to outside, completely. ...

When I only saw the furnishings on the first floor, I realized that this was not a simple building or memorial hall. What shocked me from the bottom of my heart was everything I felt from it. It is everything here that makes me feel that I should be so shocked. ...

First of all, the situation of this building. The school building was purchased by Mr. Cai Yuanpei and the Belgian with a loan of 200,000 yuan. After simple decoration and students' preparation, it is divided into stacks, reading rooms, classrooms and other rooms with simple furnishings. Then there is the reading room, which has been restored to the actual layout according to the photos at that time. An administrator's desk has attracted a lot of people's attention, because our Chairman Mao works behind this desk, and anyone can enter this reading room only after his permission. We have never felt so close to the chairman as we do today. In the corner of the reading room, the salaries of the staff at that time were displayed, ranging from the monthly salary of the principal Cai Yuanpei to that of the lowest librarian Mao Zedong, 8 yuan. The following is a series of exhibitions by Mr. Cai Yuanpei. What impressed me most was Mr. Cai Yuanpei's transformation of Peking University. Including changing the school spirit, reorganizing students and hiring teachers. It's hard to die without saying a word. In fact, what I feel here is not how amazing this building is, but what is on display here makes me really yearn for it. What I felt was a real spirit, a living spirit, a spirit of "freedom of thought and inclusiveness", which was unimaginable to ordinary people at that time. In an institution of higher learning, staunch royalists and staunch revolutionary parties can survive, and there are also a large number of reformists. This is the old times. What is this? It is an idea, a spirit, a fusion, and a long-standing spirit of "peace, freedom and fraternity". In a lecture hall, it is hard to see Ku Hongming, a royalist, and Chen Duxiu, a progressive, arguing and discussing with each other. Even now, it is hard to see which university teacher has academic arguments because of different views. This is a school and a country's style of study. Our country needs this spirit, our nation needs this argument, and we need them! This makes us feel that in such institutions of higher learning, academic freedom and academic progress come first. There is not so much political struggle for power and interests. What is needed here is real knowledge. You can come here to teach as long as you have real talent and practical learning. This allows us to find Lu Xun, Hu Shi, Chen Duxiu and Gu Hongming in these commemorative photos. Their political views are not necessarily the same, but they have one thing in common. Mr. Cai Yuanpei not only transformed this institution of higher learning, but more importantly, like a surgeon, he cut off the decadent and decadent necrotic part of this nation with one knife. This is the most important reason why this school can become the birthplace of the new culture movement. There will never be such a progressive idea in the military government office, absolutely not!

The May 4th Movement broke out in Beijing, and the movement in Beijing broke out in Peking University. Nearly 20/3 of the 3000 students went out from here, and most of the arrested students were students of this institution. As the principal, Mr. Cai Yuanpei ran around, leading the whole school teachers and welcoming the children in the school to be released. We deeply felt the concern of the 500-year-old headmaster for students. But more is the appreciation of children's "Little Phoenix is clearer than Old Phoenix" and the satisfaction of being able to accept progressive ideas. I think a principal's attitude towards these students is the attitude of this school towards the style of study. If a school has no spiritual cohesion, it is a stagnant pool. If the headmaster of a school can't devote himself to this spirit, he is personally dismantling the cornerstone of the school. An institution of higher learning cannot live without its own spiritual support. In order to defend and maintain this spirit, students and teachers can even sacrifice their lives to shed blood. This is the most gratifying place for this institution. In these photos, we feel admirable power. Even if the principal was replaced by Zhou Zuoren during the Japanese occupation period, it did not change the spiritual strength that this school should have. This is the most sufficient reason why I admire Peking University!

We walked into the room from every door here, surrounded it for a week, and then walked out of the room. What we encounter is a breath-equality and democracy, progress and revolution. The enrollment of female students, the opening of physical education class and the establishment of German Institute all make us feel that this nation still has hope, and here we find the reason why this nation can continue to struggle for its own survival. As long as the smell of these rooms does not fade, then this nation may stand in the forest of nations again. In fact, the smell here has lasted for nearly a hundred years and will continue. Save it, save it, save it forever!

In fact, we should find ourselves lost here for a long time. We need to realize the future we are going to move forward, and we need to know why there is us and why there is our future. ...
