Singapore Pavilion was laid on 1953 and officially opened on 1960. The library has more than 100 computers and more than 6000 kinds of multimedia projects, which improves the extensive services.

1In March 1994, the former Minister of Information, Arts and Education announced that the new National Library Building would be built on Victoria Street. The building covers an area of 10000 square meters, with building floors of 10 and an indoor area of 79030 square meters, and will be completed in 2004. Once completed, the National Library will move to a new place. It will include professional libraries, such as commercial libraries and art libraries.

In addition, the National Library has five regional libraries and 18 community libraries, and plans to establish 100 neighborhood libraries within 20 years.
