How to protect books from moth and moisture?
How to collect books so as not to be eaten by bugs? Experts from Yiyang Library provided some methods. First of all, it must be moisture-proof. Humidity is very harmful to books, because the non-cellulose components in paper or the harmful substances such as acid, alkali and bleaching powder remaining in paper will accelerate the aging of paper and corrode the fibers of paper under the influence of high temperature and high humidity, thus causing books to be moldy and moth-eaten, so bookcases and bookshelves should be placed in dry and ventilated places. Secondly, we should avoid light. Because all kinds of light are harmful to books, especially sunlight, bookcases should avoid direct sunlight. For books that have been damp, they should be ventilated and dry, and avoid exposure to the sun to prevent them from turning yellow and brittle. At the same time, some paper-wrapped sanitary balls, natural camphor and other insect-resistant drugs that are harmless to the human body can be placed in bookcases and bookshelves. Books and periodicals found to be eaten by insects and rats should be treated in time to prevent their spread. In addition, bookcases and bookshelves should be kept clean, because dust not only pollutes books, but also easily causes moth and mildew. If books and periodicals are damp and moldy, they can be scrubbed with cotton balls soaked in alum water, and then absorbed with absorbent paper.
