Lin life

Lin studied in Beijing since he was a child, studied in a female teacher when he grew up, and then went to Beijing World Journalism College. After graduation, I worked as a reporter, editor and librarian in Beijing World Daily. These occupations provided a wide range of opportunities, which enabled her to have a deeper understanding of the social features of old Beijing, and also provided many materials for her later novel creation. Her famous novel Old Things in the South of the City is based on this period of life. Lin returned to Taiwan with her husband on 1948 and was hired as an editor by the newly published Mandarin Daily. United Daily News was founded in 195 1, and she was appointed as the editor-in-chief of the supplement of United Daily News, with her husband as the lead writer. During this period, she paid special attention to cultivating and supporting local writers in Taiwan Province Province. For example, manuscripts at that time were often rejected, but Lin often made his manuscripts public. After his death, Lin published his first book Rain, and then his novel Lishan Farm was serialized in the supplement of United Daily News. When editing the supplement of the United Daily News, Lin published a poem called "Ship", describing a ship that drifted for a long time at sea and finally drifted to an isolated island. The treasure was slowly used up, so it was trapped in hardship. The authorities in Taiwan Province Province think that this is an allusion to the living conditions of Chiang Kai-shek after he arrived in Taiwan Province Province and arrested the author, so Lin can't supplement it. Lin's creation is rich. The writing background of Old Things in the South of the City is the Republic of China 12 years. In a huge city of Beiping, it spans a very deep and broad ancient city of time and space. In the childhood memory of the protagonist Eiko, it only shows the tip of its vitality. Some streets and lanes in the south of the city are not relics of old Beijing, but endless real life, full of excitement. Each chapter, as the author said, can indeed be regarded as an independent short story, but if we consider the spread of characters, the transformation of scenes and the close relationship between the key figure Ma Song and the protagonist, it will become an inseparable novel. At that time, when the author was writing, the western "structuralism" and "critical theory" had not influenced China's writers, but a good writer could make a successful work have its own complete structure, make the complicated interpersonal relationships find their proper place, and fully show the theme of the whole chapter. Each chapter has almost no compact plot on the surface, but in the eyes of a little girl who is only seven or eight years old, there is a tragic world behind it. The author's limited observation of this child has never exceeded, and her world was almost confined to a quadrangle in the south of Beiping city fifty years ago.
