The school was formerly the Northwest Trade School founded by 1952. 1985, Northwest Trade School was renamed Shaanxi Business School; 1996, Shaanxi Business College, Shaanxi Finance College and Shaanxi Industrial and Commercial College merged into Shaanxi Institute of Economics and Business; 20 18 1 1 was renamed as Xi 'an University of Finance and Economics with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
