The library has more than 800,000 books, including about 3,000 domestic and foreign periodicals and 9,000 electronic materials. The library has established an online periodical retrieval system, an electronic/audio-visual reading system and a CD-ROM retrieval network. At the same time, it maintains good communication relations with major libraries in China and is authorized to keep the publications of FAO. The library's collection covers all disciplines in multiple languages, with emphasis on agricultural science and life science. The library also has a large collection of ancient agricultural books in China.
The current library building was completed in 1987, with a building area of 1 10,000 ㎡. There are more than 2000 seats for teachers, students and electronic/audio-visual reading rooms. The library plans to expand to 18000㎡ in the near future, and a new 8000㎡ library will be built in five years.
The library has formed a well-organized service system, providing readers with online database retrieval, question search, reference consultation, cataloging, training and self-built database, and is working hard towards automation, digital library and networking.
