Twenty years later, a brand-new library was completed in Shenzhen administrative center. This new library with a total construction area of 49,589 square meters, a designed collection of 4 million books and an average daily readership of 8,000 people has set off a reading craze in Shenzhen. Wu Rixi, the director of Shenzhen Library, told the public on behalf of the new Temple for Reading Classics: "No matter where readers come from, they will be welcomed here. I believe that the ancients said,' One more person who studies today is one more person who serves the country'.
Shenzhen Library is one of the eight key cultural facilities in Shenzhen in the early 1980s. When it was completed in 1986, it covered an area of 22,000 square meters and the building area was 13000 square meters. From 1992 to 20 12, this library has accompanied Shenzhen people for 20 years.
Liu Chucai, the old curator, keeps a copy of People's Daily 1988. On that newspaper, there are two photos side by side: one is the cold traffic in front of a famous library in China, and the other is the long queue in front of Shenzhen Library to get a library card. The two scenes are in sharp contrast. At that time, the number of readers who received 3000-5000 person-times every day was in the forefront of libraries of the same size and nature.
Today, this old library has just completed its historical mission, and the new library is located in the administrative center of Shenzhen.
With a total construction area of nearly 50,000 square meters, it is estimated to invest 770 million yuan, design a collection of 4 million books and receive 8,000 readers every day. Some people commented that there will be a "paradise-like" library in Shenzhen from now on. Just when the library posted the notice of moving and closing, many readers came here specially to relive the unforgettable time they spent here before closing, and they were reluctant to part.
