The History of Nanming is one of Gu Cheng's representative works, which records the historical relics of Nanming from the time Dashun Army captured Beijing in the seventeenth year of Chongzhen (1644) to the time when the thirteen Kuidong families captured Chongqing in the third year of Kangxi (1664).

The book is about 770,000 words, with abundant historical materials, 237 local chronicles and 579 bibliographies.
