Chengdu Museum is the largest comprehensive museum in Chengdu with a history of more than 50 years. 1958, the preparatory committee of Chengdu Local Records Museum was established; 1974, Chengdu Cultural Relics Management Office was established; 1982, Chengdu integrated relevant cultural relics management institutions to form Chengdu Museum, located in Daci Temple, Dongfeng Road, Chengdu, which was officially opened to the public in 1984.
In 2009, the foundation stone was laid for the new Chengdu Museum, which was completed and opened in June 2065438+2006. Chengdu Museum is located on the west side of Tianfu Square in Chengdu, adjacent to Sichuan Library, Sichuan Art Museum and Sichuan Science and Technology Museum, covering an area of about 17 mu, with a total construction area of 65,000 square meters. Stone rhinoceros: It has high archaeological and artistic research value. The stone rhinoceros in Chengdu Museum is lovely in appearance, but promising. It was first discovered in 1973, when the foundation of the bell tower of Tianfu Square was dug, and it was later backfilled.
