School of Library and Information Science of Wuhan University is one of the earliest schools established in Wuhan University. Its predecessor was Ms. Wei Dihua (M.E.Wood, 18 6 2 ~ 19 3 1), an American librarian. The library department of Wenhua University in Wuchang was founded in 1 9 2 0, which is the birthplace of formal library science education in China. 19 2 9, the Library Department was established as Wuchang Wenhua Library College. 1 9 5 3 In September, Wenhua College merged into Wuhan University and became a major in library science. 1 9 5 6 changed to library department. 19 On April 7th, 1984, it was approved by the former Ministry of Education as the first library and information college in China. 1 9 7 8 began to recruit graduate students, 1 9 8 1 approved the major of library science as the authorized point of master of arts, 1 9 8 3, 19 approved the major of science and technology information science as the authorized point of master of science. In 2006, the science and technology information specialty was granted the doctoral degree authorization point, and in 1 9 9 3, the library science specialty was granted the doctoral degree authorization point.
