1955 the academic conference on standardization of modern applied Chinese made it clear that the standard of modern applied Chinese putonghua is "Beijing pronunciation as the standard, northern dialect as the basic dialect, and typical modern vernacular as the grammatical norm".
Standard:
1, the pronunciation standard of Beijing dialect.
The standard position of Beijing pronunciation has long been recognized by people. As a phonetic standard, Beijing accent itself should exclude some special local accents. The pronunciation of every Chinese character in Beijing dialect should be determined, so that people in all dialect areas have a basis.
2. Vocabulary is based on northern dialect.
Northern dialect has the largest distribution area with a population of over 700 million. The vocabulary of Putonghua is based on the northern dialect, but some vulgar words in the northern dialect should be abandoned. In order to enrich vocabulary, Putonghua should also absorb useful elements from dialects, archaic words and foreign languages.
3. Grammar is regulated by typical modern vernacular Chinese.
The so-called "model works" refer to representative works. The so-called "modern vernacular works" refers to both vernacular and modern works, because the early vernacular works do not conform to modern grammar. Grammatical norms must also be "general use cases" in modern vernacular works, that is, the most common use cases.
