Yulin Normal University is a full-time undergraduate college directly under Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, a national cooperative college of the "Hundred Schools Project" of the Ministry of Education, a pilot college for comprehensive reform of higher education in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and a pilot college for overall transformation and development in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is the first demonstration teacher education base of Guangxi university teachers' professional ability improvement project, Guangxi 2 1 century gardener project class B teacher training base, Guangxi first kindergarten teacher education base, Guangxi first primary school teacher education base, Guangxi first junior high school teacher education base, and Guangxi university "enterprise education demonstration base for college students".

The school was founded in 1945, formerly Kirin Normal School, renamed Yulin Normal School in 1952, and upgraded to Yulin Normal College in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in 1958. After several renaming, it was re-established as Yulin Normal University with the approval of the State Council on 1978. In 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Yulin Normal College, Yulin Education College, Yulin Higher Vocational College (in preparation) and Guangxi Radio and TV University Yulin Branch merged and upgraded to Yulin Normal College. Yulin Business Technical School was merged in 2003.
