Learning technology.
On the road to becoming a better writer, reading can take you further and faster. It only takes a few dollars and a few hours to absorb the master's raiders and "secret weapons".
I read a lot of books about writing, and I'm always searching for titles I haven't read yet, or titles of new books about topics I'm studying deeply. Although I am not a novelist, I also like reading books about writing novels, because I believe that non-fiction writers can learn a lot from novel skills.
Steven Presfield's The War of Art
The target audience of this book is writers, but it is also suitable for anyone engaged in creative work. Whether you are a musician, a priest, a teacher or any occupation that requires you to "write something on a blank page", this book needs to be kept in your library. I watch The War of Art twice a year, and I may watch it twice a year in the next few years.
Presfield omitted all the sensational romantic dialogues about writing life, and I think these dialogues are useless. Indeed, professional writers don't walk around looking at flowers and other inspirations. Instead, they resist the impulse of distraction and sit in front of the computer to finish the day's work. Presfield instilled professional opinions into his readers. For Presfield, being a writer is no more attractive than being a plumber. Professionals come to "repair the toilet" every day. "I doubt that there is any book that has a more positive impact on my writing career than this one.
William Zinser on excellent writing;
Zinser is probably the best practical writing coach. After reading this book several years ago, I learned to write in half (the first draft of A Million Miles was 6.5438+10,000 words, and it was 54,000 words when it was published). From Zinser, I also learned to write for myself, not for the audience. This is the most important lesson a writer can learn. Zinser teaches us to write what we find interesting or touching. I believe there are more people like you in the world. You will gain confidence from writing good articles.
A bird gets a bird (Anne lamotte);
Before becoming a literary superstar, Professor Anne lamotte wrote that her suggestions were one by one. This book is divided into several chapters. The title of this book comes from a story she told. Her father, who is also a writer, instructed her to write a large-scale paper on birds one at a time when she was a child. Although Anne does provide practical advice in the book, what she really provides is emotional reason. When you finish reading bird after bird, you will realize that you are not alone in the world of words. Whether she allows you to write a bad first draft or gives you the courage to write a fallen person in your life, you will feel more confident when Anne walks through the shadows with you. Besides, it is probably the best book on practical writing advice that you will really read.
Black Snyder's Save the Cat
Snyder's book is specially written for screenwriters, but I also recommend it to any type of writer, teacher and missionary. In fact, I suggest reading it several times and taking a lot of notes to understand how the story works. After watching Save the Cat, you will find that you will never see the same movie as before. Honestly, you don't want to see it either. Every time you watch a movie, you will understand why you like it or not, and Snyder's wisdom will be further embedded in your creative process. Snyder's book is about structure and form. Before a writer becomes too creative, he or she should learn form, which is probably the best book about form.
Plot and Structure Author: James Scott Bell is similar to Save the Cat, and James Scott Bell explains how the story works in very simple language. For example, sedition is a channel that a character cannot return. Since I first read Bell's book, this mental image and many other images have remained in my mind. If you are a fan of robert mckee, his story may be too long and comprehensive, and you will like Bell's handling of similar concepts. Although I strongly recommend reading McKee's book, if it is not for story suggestion, it is because the rich philosophical treatment of this topic in the book can make you think about life. If you are a novelist or an aspiring novelist, plot and structure are necessary.
On writing, the author Stephen King: Kim's book is divided into two parts. The first part is a wonderful memoir about his writing life and career, and the second part provides practical suggestions. I like two parts of his book, especially the second half. Martin Luther King sold more than 65438+ billion books in his life, and he did it.
