The book style (taking monthly books and annual cumulative books as examples) is divided into three parts: the classified subject catalogue is the main body of the bibliography, all items are arranged according to Dewey classification, and then arranged alphabetically by author under each category. Bibliographic information is detailed and accurate, including edition, series items, page number, legend, font size, ISBN number, price, etc. Both the subject index and the author index give Dewey's book classification to facilitate searching in the text.
After 1977, BNB published the "cataloging in edition" materials of new books in each issue, and revised the CIP materials before the book was published or after it was sent to the Copyright Bureau, and "CIP rev" appeared in the annotations of the entry, which greatly increased the role of bibliography as a book selection tool. This is a feature that the bibliographies of other countries, including NUC, do not have.
The electronic version of BNB is a CD-ROM version of BNB. Based on the Online Catalogue of British Library, it has 1.7 million books and new release records. Accumulate and update every month, and release about 50 thousand CIP new book information in advance every year. From the collection scope, it can be divided into "current file" and "post file". The former includes the bibliographic records of 1986 up to now, while the latter includes the book information of 1950- 1985. The CD-ROM provides more than 20 kinds of search items, including author, title, keywords, series, Dewey book classification number, US Congress keywords and so on, which is very useful for bibliographic consultation, book selection, understanding the latest research progress, library cataloging and so on.
