Extended data

1, according to the material, it can be divided into two kinds: the same material on the ridge surface and the different material on the ridge surface.

The spine material is the same, that is, the spine and the back cover material are the same. There are square ridges and round ridges. Hardcover fabrics are mostly paper, cloth, lacquered paper and lacquered cloth. , usually equipped with a protective seal. However, there is a kind of book title, pattern and so on. Printed on the whole paper and pasted on the cardboard. Most of these books have square ridges and no protective seals.

(1) Ridges of different materials:

In other words, the spine and the cover are made of different materials. Cloth is usually used as the spine of the book, and paper is pasted on the cardboard as the cover. This form is generally a round ridge unprotected seal.

C (floating port): 2~3mmF (including port):13 ~15 mm.

E (book slot width): 6~7mmH (interface between paper and spine): 6~7mm.

K (waist and paper edge width): 3 ~ 5mmG (seam width): D+2E.

(2) The same material on the ridge surface:

A (fabric width): h+2C+2F

B (fabric length): 2S+D+2E+2C+2F.

A (paperboard length): h+2C

B (board width): S-E+C

(3) Different materials on the ridge surface:

A (paper length): h+2C+2F

M (paper width): S-K-E+C+F

A (waist circumference): h+2C+2F

L (waist width): D+2E+2K+2H

A (paper length of middle seam): h+2C

D (width of middle seam paper): the arc length of the ridge.

2, spine arc length calculation method:

No spine (only round, no spine) d = (130 ×π× book thickness /2)/ 180.

Ridge (round, ridge) D = [130×π× (book thickness +2 cardboard thickness) /2]/ 180.

3. The materials and dimensions of the spine are as follows: gauze length: h-20.

Width of gauze: D+40

The length of the plug cloth is equal to the arc length of the ridge.

The length of the ribbon is equivalent to the diagonal length of the book block.

4, the size of the protective seal:

A (protective seal width): h+2C

Q (sealing length): B-2F+2R

R is the choke of the seal, which is generally above 30 mm According to the size of the format, the choke can be made larger without wasting paper and facilitating printing.

The above dimensions are all after cutting, and the incision should be considered when designing the cover seal, that is, 3mm incision should be left in the top, bottom, left and right when designing the draft.

Example: 120 format, the finished product size is 185×208, the text is 1 12, the front and rear ring linings are 8, and the text and ring linings are printed with 80g/m2 double-sided adhesive paper. The square ridge is hardcover, and the ridge is sealed with 120g/m2 coated paper. After printing, the film is pressed and the hard shell is attached. Use 1.5 mm thick cardboard. How wide should the designer design the cover?

5. There are two kinds of square ridge hardcover: full cloth cover and full paper cover. The material size is the same. It is estimated that the thickness of the spine is 7 mm. ..

A (paper width): h+36=208+36=244 (mm)

B (paper length): 2s+d+2×1.5+48 = 2×185+7+3+48 = 428.

A (paperboard length): h+6=208+6=2 14 (mm)

B (width of paperboard): s-4 =185-4 =181(mm)

The cover designer can design with (244+6)×(428+6) that is, 252×434 paper; When designing the pattern, we should consider removing the size of the package mouth to ensure the correct position of the pattern.

Example: 2 16 format, finished product size 185×260, 600 sides of text, 80g/m2 double-sided adhesive paper, 120g/m2 double-sided adhesive paper for front and rear ring lining, the back cover is made of the same material, the back cover is hardcover with round ridge, and the back thickness is measured with 34mm thick cardboard. Calculate the size of the cover and cover of this book.

A (fabric width): h+36=260+36=296 (mm)

B (cloth length): 2S+D+48=370+43+48=46 1 (mm)

d =[ 130×π×(34+4)/2]/ 180 = 43(mm)

A (paperboard length): 260+6=266 (mm)

B (plate width): 185-4= 18 1 (mm)

Sealing width: h+2C=260+6=266 (mm)

Sealing length: 2s+2e+2c+d+2r = 2s+18+d+2r = 431+2r.

R (choke): over 30mm.

The cover designer can design the seal with 272×(437+2R) paper.

Example: 332 format, finished product size is 130× 185, text is 636 sides, printed on 52g/m2 embossed paper, front and back lining and 12 sides engraved in the title page, with 80g/m2 double-sided adhesive paper. The spine of the book is made of different materials, the cover is paper, the waist is wrapped, and the spine is round with 2mm thick cardboard.

The calculated spine thickness is 26 mm Calculate the size of the cover design.

A (paper length): h+36= 185+36=22 1 (mm)

M (paper width): S+8= 130+8= 138 (mm)

A (waist circumference): 22 1 (mm)

L (waist width): [130×π× (26+4)/2]/180+36 = 70 (mm)

A (paper length of middle seam): h+6= 19 1(mm)

D (paper width of middle seam): [130×π× (26+4)/2]/180 = 34 (mm)

Therefore, designers can design in 227× 144 paper.

Through the analysis of typical examples, the binding designer is required to master the knowledge about the types, specifications, performance, price, calculation method of book cost and salary, printing technology and operation flow of paper materials. Only in this way can we avoid unnecessary economic losses in each link according to the nature of book content and readers' level, combined with material and technical conditions and under the principle of practical, beautiful and economical design.
