The Historical Evolution of Libraries in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region
The development history of Inner Mongolia Library can be traced back to the Cheng Guihua Library, which was founded by Sanduo, Vice Governor of Cheng Guihua, in Wenchang Temple, Xiaodong Street in the old city in the 34th year of Guangxu reign (AD 1908). 1925 was renamed "Suiyuan Provincial Library". During the Japanese occupation, the Mongolian Cultural Center was changed to the Mongolian Cultural College and moved to Zhangjiakou on 1942. During the period of 1945, due to the war, more than half of the collections of the former Mongolian Cultural Institute were lost. 1In April, 947, the Suiyuan provincial government transported the remaining books back to Suiyuan,1resumed the provincial library on October 4th, 165438. 1August, 949, the provincial library moved into the former site of the Provincial People's Education Museum and became the library under the jurisdiction of Suiyuan Social Education Promotion Committee. 1950 in may, under the instruction of the Suiyuan provincial department of culture and education, the provincial library was established on the basis of the former Suiyuan social education implementation Committee. First, a library was opened in the small courtyard behind the Workers' Cultural Palace. In June of the same year, it moved to the Drum Tower in Xincheng, and was officially named "Suiyuan Provincial People's Library". 1957, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the founding of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, a building with a building area of 2,830 square meters was built in Hohhot People's Park, with a designed collection of 300,000 books. The library has entered a new period of all-round development. The collection of books has increased from more than 30,000 volumes in the early days of the People's Republic of China to more than 6.5438+0.4 million volumes, far exceeding the original design capacity of the library.

1985 the government of inner Mongolia autonomous region decided to build a new inner Mongolia library. The new building is located in Wulanchabu West Road, Hohhot, with an area of 28,000 square meters and a total construction area of 20,000 square meters. The designed collection capacity is 3 million volumes, with four floors in the main building and nine floors in the stacks. On April 8th 1995, the new building broke ground, completed on July 8th 1997, and officially opened for readers on May 28th 1998. After the opening of the new library, it received more than 500,000 readers every year, which attracted wide attention from all walks of life and became one of the largest public libraries with complete functions and advanced facilities in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
