Beijing Foreign Studies University is a well-known university with foreign languages and tourism as its dominant disciplines and the coordinated development of literature, management, economy and philosophy. It is also an important base for foreign language, translation, tourism, economy and trade training and research in China.
Beijing international studies university was established in June 2004 and June 2005 on the basis of the former Xinhua News Agency Foreign Language Cadre School, which was personally proposed by Premier Zhou Enlai. It is the first batch of undergraduate enrollment institutions in China. It has been led by the National Cultural Liaison Committee, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Beijing Municipal People's Government, the Ministry of Education and the National Tourism Administration. In February 2000, it was placed under the management of Beijing Municipal People's Government.

At present, there are 44 undergraduate majors (including 26 language majors), 28 authorized master's degree programs in 2 disciplines, 6 authorized professional master's degree programs, 5 authorized master's degree programs in first-class disciplines, 2 joint doctoral programs (jointly training doctors in translation with Binghamton University and doctors in tourism with the University of South Carolina), and 2 post-doctoral research mobile stations (jointly established with Social Science Literature Publishing House and capital university of economics and business respectively). There are two advanced disciplines (tourism management, foreign languages and literature) and four key construction disciplines (foreign languages and literature, tourism management, enterprise management and international trade) in Beijing universities.
