The school was founded in the early days of the founding of New China. Its predecessor was 1950, a training course for post and telecommunications personnel in Shaanxi and Gansu, and later it was xi 'an Post and Telecommunications School. Xi Institute of Posts and Telecommunications was established on 1959 with the approval of the State Council, and it is the only ordinary university of posts and telecommunications in northwest China.
