It integrates publishing and sales of various media publications, chain operation, import and export trade, copyright trade, printing reproduction, information technology services, scientific and technological development and capital operation.

According to China's commitment to join the WTO, in May 2003, the General Administration of Press and Publication promulgated the Measures for the Administration of Foreign-invested Books, Newspapers and Periodicals Distribution Enterprises, which stipulated that foreign businessmen would be allowed to engage in the retail business of books, newspapers and periodicals in the China market from May 1 day. The Regulation on the Establishment of Foreign-invested Wholesale Enterprises for Books, Newspapers and Periodicals was implemented on June 5438+February 1 2004. The Measures also clearly stipulate that the establishment of retail and wholesale enterprises for books, newspapers and periodicals by foreign investors must be approved by the General Administration of Press and Publication. At present, more than 60 foreign-funded enterprises have set up offices in Chinese mainland, and are preparing and applying for investment to set up book and newspaper publishing enterprises.

At present, there are 570 publishing houses and 320 audio-visual publishing units in China. The state has planned many key projects of book publishing and set up excellent book awards, which has promoted the development of book industry.
