Shaxi is a small dam surrounded by green hills with a total area of 287 square kilometers and a dam area of 26 square kilometers. The residents are mainly Bai people, and Han, Yi and Lisu people live together. Here, the scenery is beautiful, the climate is pleasant, and the products are rich. The Heihe River of Lancang River system runs through the whole dam from north to south.
The history of shaxi town can be traced back to the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. During the Tang and Song Dynasties, Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom rose in the southwest, which became a buffer zone between the Tang Dynasty and Tubo at that time, a link between the strong and one of the main places to communicate their economic and cultural exchanges. As an ancient town on the ancient road at that time, Shaxi played a positive role.

Shaxi town is located in the southwest of Jianchuan County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, at the southeast end of Laojunshan area, a world natural heritage area where Jinsha River, Lancang River and Nujiang River flow side by side, between Dali Scenic Area and Shangri-La and Lijiang. It is located between 3611'-2619' north latitude and 99 45'-99 58' east longitude. East to niujie Township of Eryuan County, south to Qiaohou Town of Eryuan County, west to Misha Township of Jianchuan County, and north to Diannan Town of Jianchuan County; Shaxi Dam is surrounded by mountains, and the Heiyu River of Lancang River runs through the dam from north to south, with a total area of 287 square kilometers.
