Britain's Qing archives can be roughly divided into two parts. One is the archives of China plundered in the war, which were formed by the local government of China, such as the archives of the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi; The second is the archives formed by British institutions in China in their daily work contacts with the Qing government and its affiliated institutions (in Chinese and English), such as the archives of East India companies and diplomatic institutions. 1, looted Qing archives (1765— 1857)

This part of the file *** 1954 is the official file of 1858 that Britain plundered China in Guangdong during the Second Opium War. These include documents between the central government and local governments in China; Documents formed by local governments themselves; Documents from the front door of the Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi and the yamen of the Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi were originally collected. These documents can be divided into the following six categories:

2. Archives formed by British institutions in China

(1) Archives of China Secretariat of East India Company (1793— 1834)

This part of the document * * * Volume 34 was formed by the Special Committee of Guangdong and Macau Merchant Cargo Supervisors of the East India Company. Before 1834 was abolished, the Committee actually exercised the British trade monopoly right in China owned by the East India Company. One of the earliest manuscripts was 1793, the Chinese translation of the letter from King George II of England to Emperor Qianlong of China. The letter introduced Lord Magalny's trip to China as the ambassador of the mission. Many exchanges are about tea and cotton trade; Guangdong trade representatives negotiate with local authorities in China on judicial disputes; Bankruptcy of foreign businessmen and tariff issues. In addition, there are files on opium smuggling trade.

(2) British embassies and consulates in China archives (1727-? )

The closing date of this part of the file is ominous, with 699 files. The content involves: central government, Westernization Movement, Boxer Movement, civil strife, education, finance, Sino-foreign relations, industry, labor, mining, opium, passports, public health, railways, reform movement, shipping, Sino-Japanese War, telecommunications, trade and so on.

(2) Oriental Manuscripts and Books Department of British Library

This museum keeps precious archives and documents of China. Among them, Manchu archives include Manchu Zhu Pi memorial, Manchu please fold, etc. Chinese archives include Imperial edict from Emperor China to the King of England, Shen Kangnan's Tour Map, Land and Water Atlas of Zhenhai Camp in the 21st year of Daoguang, List of Guangdong Wuchuanying, Dapeng Camp and Shunde Camp, List of Naval Officers in Offshore and Inland Waters, Survey of Fauna and Flora and Minerals in Luofu Mountain, Guangzhou City Map, and Military Defence Atlas along the Pearl River from Guangzhou to Macau.
