In the 15th year of the Republic of China (1926), in July, the Guangzhou Revolutionary Army began its northern expedition. In September, Feng Yuxiang (1882 ~ 1948) announced that he had left the northern warlords and joined the national revolution. Wu United Zhang (1875 ~ 1928) attacked Feng Yuxiang and was defeated by the Northern Expeditionary Army. The following spring (1927), Feng Yuxiang occupied Xi 'an and cooperated with the Northern Expeditionary Army to attack Henan. In February, the first regiment led by Miao Xing was ordered to go to Zhengzhou and then to Wuyang. On March 6th, Miao Xing was killed in the battle with Ren, at the age of 37. In June, the body was transported back to Shaolin Temple by the disciple's body and mind, and was buried on the northeast hillside of the temple. In March of the 17th year of the Republic of China, Fan Zhongxiu, Miao Xing's superior, took advantage of the emptiness behind Feng Yuxiang's national army and captured Gong County and Yanshi County, but was soon recaptured by Shi Yousan, the general of Feng Department. Fan Zhongxiu withdrew from the south and transferred to Dengfeng County, with its headquarters in Shaolin Temple. Shi Yousan's troops pursued south to the Yuan Pass (episode 18), and Shaolin monks helped Fan attack, but were defeated. More than 200 monks were almost killed. On March 15, Shi Yousan chased Shaolin Temple and set it on fire. The next day, Su, the brigade commander of the national army (Feng Yuxiang's department) stationed in Dengfeng, ordered the sergeant to bring kerosene to the temple, and set fire to the Heavenly King Hall, Mahayana Hall, Temple of Six Ancestors, Hall of Hades, Dragon King Hall, Bell and Drum Tower, incense kitchen, warehouse, East and West Zen Hall, Imperial Palace and other places to vent their anger. At this point, the thousand-year-old building of Shaolin Temple was destroyed.
After 1982, the state carried out a large-scale restoration and reconstruction of Shaolin Temple to facilitate cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. Now, Shaolin Temple complex in Songshan Mountain with the theme of Mountain Gate, Heavenly King Hall, Ursa Mahayana Hall, Tibetan Scripture Pavilion, abbot's room, Li Xuege Hall and Western Sage Hall has been formed, which makes the Millennium temple glow with new brilliance.
However, Feng Yuxiang, whom we have always respected, slaughtered Shaolin Temple, not only killing all the monks, but also destroying thousands of years-old buildings and a large number of precious documents such as Buddhist scriptures and boxing scores, which was not only reckless. According to records, in 1927, devout Christian Feng Yuxiang expelled monks from abandoned temples in Henan, turning Suoguo Temple into a market. And launched a campaign to destroy Buddhism in the province, and all monks and nuns were expelled. All temple properties were confiscated, and temples were turned into schools or used as almshouses, libraries or entertainment places. After Henan, places like Chile, Shandong and Qin followed blindly, so Buddhism in North China almost declined. From this perspective, the reason why Feng Yuxiang slaughtered Shaolin is clear.
